We thought it was appropriate to give our website a little revamp in preparation for our launch and as a space where we can publish more information on our upcoming events.
In the next few days we are hoping to firm down dates for our future events. Which we will announce on our Launch Tea Party.
We hope to see you very soon..!
We have now got a date set for the fist Birminghan Girl Geek event. Come along for our Launch Tea Party on 21st Jan 2:30-5:30pm at Urban Coffee Co. There will be free coffee and cake, a raffle full of geeky goodies thanks to our wonderful sponsors and the opportunity to hear and network with other girl geeks in the area.
We will be featuring presentations from 3 wonderful speakers:
Denise Jacobs – “Let’s Rawk the Web!”
While some conferences support a proactive diversity policy, the common lament industry-wide is the pool of candidates just isn’t large enough to draw from. As women in a male-dominated industry, we need to Rawk The Web: to become more visible, promote our achievements, and make ourselves known as the rockstars we truly are. Let’s chat about how we can build self-esteem, create opportunities, and develop community and meaningful relationships to enable us do just that.
Karen Strunks – 4am Project
Karen Strunks is a photographer and works in social media. She will be giving a short talk on how she has used social media to create one of the largest global collaborative photography projects, the 4am Project (link to http://www.4amproject.org)
Rachel McCollin – Mobile Web Design
Rachel will be talking about how she’s gone from first getting inspired by mobile web design to developing a reputation for her understanding of the topic and writing a book on it in just over a year, and reflecting on how the fast-changing nature of the web design industry means that there’s no better time for women to break into the profession.
We look much forward to seeing you there. For more information and updates follow us on Twitter or like our Facebook page.
